5 Years of Project Work Completed

Dear friends and colleagues,

As DISSINET II, the ERC-funded project Networks of Dissent: Computational Modelling of Dissident and Inquisitorial Cultures in Medieval Europe (2021–2026), has come to a close, we would like to share some recent outputs and resources. In this issue, we introduce a new guide to AI-assisted research workflows, a visualization of DISSINET's library, and a redesigned publications portal. We also invite you to the DISSINET II Closing and DISSINET III Opening Event, where we will present selected project results and outline future directions of research.

Research Overview

New Publications Portal

Our website now features a redesigned Publications section providing a consolidated overview of DISSINET outputs. Alongside published articles, datasets, editions, maps, software tools, and manuals, the new page also includes submitted and accepted publications and allows browsing by publication type and research strand.

Augmented Research: AI beyond the chat window

We have published Augmented Research, an open resource exploring how large language models can be integrated into historical and social-science research workflows. Originally developed from an internal DISSINET workshop, the guide focuses on working with AI over research corpora, project files, analytical code, and institutional research contexts rather than through isolated prompting.

DISSINET's Library Mapped

A new visualization of DISSINET's Zotero library maps more than 11,000 items collected since 2015 by subject domain and subfield. The resulting picture confirms the team's (inter)disciplinary profile: with predominantly medieval historical core, but substantially shaped by network science and computational methods.

10 Sept 2026: Join us to discuss the main achievements of DISSINET II

On 10 September 2026 at 10:00 CET, we will host the online DISSINET II Closing / DISSINET III Opening Event. Join us to explore the research results, datasets, and digital infrastructures from DISSINET II, learn about the upcoming agenda for DISSINET III, and discuss the future of digital historical research.
